Infection knocks Finley flat with fever - JSOnline

Green Bay — Green Bay Packers tight end Jermichael Finley wasn't sure if he had the flu or something else, but he was very sick and he knew something was wrong.

Because he had a similar experience in high school, he knew he had to see someone.

It turned out he was right. Finley said Wednesday morning that he contracted an infection in his right knee after having arthroscopic surgery Oct. 12 for torn cartilage that landed him on season-ending injured reserve.

On Oct. 22, Finley said, team physician Patrick McKenzie came to his house to check on him and, upon seeing his swollen knee, had it drained of fluid.

By Oct. 25, Finley was burning up with fever, he said. Finley said he had been feeling so ill he could not eat for a day. He tried to sleep it off, but when he awoke to find his bed soaked with his perspiration and his skin feeling it was on fire, he headed to the Packers facility to talk to the trainers.

"It is the worst you can feel, nauseous and hot as hell," Finley said "The worst. I didn't want to eat or really be around anyone."

He said he had a temperature of 105 degrees and a major infection in the same knee that required the operation.

After seeing Finley burning up with fever, Packers trainers rushed Finley by car to Bellin Hospital in Green Bay. It ended up being a blessing that he had not eaten because Finley was able to go into surgery that afternoon to remove the infection.

Bellin's emergency room staff was ready for Finley, he said, and he went under the knife immediately "to clean out the infection." He said doctors also inserted a central line - running from his neck down to his chest - as the fastest way to get the antibiotics into his body to fight the infection.

"It's the exact same infection that Tom Brady had," Finley said. "I was running that 105 fever for a good 12, 15 hours. I think I survived it because we caught it so fast."

A team spokesman said the medical staff identified the infection as staph but that there are varying degrees of severity and that this was considered the common type, not the more serious MRSA. Some NFL teams have had outbreaks of the more serious type of staph infection throughout their training facilities, and that has caused teams to take extra measures to ensure a breakout doesn't occur.

The Packers' medical staff follows a strict protocol to prevent infection from spreading, the spokesman said, adding that this latest case had been isolated.

Finley's second surgery was first reported by ESPNMilwaukee.com Tuesday night. Finley said Wednesday that he was fine but that the ordeal was very scary.

"I had this infection 10 times worse when I was in high school," Finley said. "To tell you the truth, they almost had to cut my dang leg off because my leg, my knee, had swelled up to like a volleyball."

That infection, he said, left him hospitalized for two weeks.

Finley said he is drinking a lot of water now.

"That's the key to all this now, staying hydrated and drinking as much fluid as possible," Finley said. "The knee is the last thing I'm worried about. The infection is the only thing that can hold me down right now. The swelling is down in the knee. I can bend the knee - not full range of motion, but I'm bending it. The knee is coming along great."

Finley is still on crutches and said he will be for another four or five weeks.

Tom Silverstein of the Journal Sentinel staff contributed to this report.

Jermichael Finley

Jermichael Finley: " Jermichael Finley-TE- Packers Nov. 3 - 1:49 pm et

Jermichael Finley described the infection in his recently surgically repaired knee as 'the exact same infection that Tom Brady had.'
Brady, of course, incurred multiple staph infections following his 2008 ACL surgery. The infection hospitalized Finley for two weeks, and he had a second surgery on the right knee. 'The knee is coming along great,' Finley insisted. He's got plenty of time to get ready for offseason workouts, so it should only be a concern if the staph infection returns, requiring more surgery.

Texans' Johnson Makes History in the Process

HOUSTON - It would seem Tennessee Titans cornerback Cortland Finnegan got exactly what he wanted during the Houston Texans 20-0 victory Sunday at Reliant Stadium

Seconds before an altercation broke out between Texans receiver Andre Johnson and Finnegan in the fourth quarter that got both players ejected, multiple sources told FOX 26 Sports Finnegan looked at the Texans sidelines and said, "watch this."

After the ball was snapped Finnegan instigated the fight by hitting Johnson in the facemask with a forearm. The Texans All-Pro receiver began to retaliate. Both players ripped each other's helmets off and Johnson landed several punches before the referees intervened.

While Finnegan did not speak to the media, Johnson quickly apologized for his actions.

"I would like to apologize to the organization, our owner, my teammates," Johnson said. "What happened out there (Sunday) wasn't me. I just lost my cool. I wish that I can take back what happened, but I can't. It's over and done with now. I'm pretty sure I'll be disciplined for it. When that times comes I'll find out what it is and have to deal with it from there."

Johnson said he and Finnegan had been going at it throughout the game, with Finnegan using extracurricular tactics often.

"It's just a build up of things over plays," Johnson said. "I think that he was frustrated with what was going on during the game. He kept doing little things and I told him just because you're frustrated you need to stop what your doing and I guess he thought it was funny.

"He was mad because we had exchanged some words. He tried to quick-jam me because he thought I wasn't looking. He snatched my helmet off. I snatched his off and it went from there."

Johnson acknowledged he is worried about getting suspended.

"It's something I thought about," Johnson said. "Of Course I hope that doesn't happen because I would be hurting my team."

Texans owner Bob McNair certainly doesn't believe his star receiver should be punished further by the NFL.

"I don't know why there would be," McNair said. "The DB was all over him and he's (Finnegan) the one that initiated it, and he'd been dojng it the play before and the whole game. He just went a little too far and Andre was the one on camera when the action heated up. That's not Andre."

Johnson caught nine passes for 56 yards and one touchdown.

He needed only four receptions against the Titans to become the first player in NFL history to have at least 60 catches during his first eight seasons in the NFL.

"It's a tremendous honor," Johnson said. "I always said that I wanted to be one of the best players at my position when I came into this game. I did something that no one else has done. I'm excited about it."

Seahawks | Seahawks' 2010 receiving crew is quieter, steadier | Seattle Times Newspaper

Seahawks | Seahawks' 2010 receiving crew is quieter, steadier | Seattle Times Newspaper

RENTON — Ben Obomanu plays a position known for personality, yet he's a wide receiver so quiet you might not know he's in the room.

He was his high school's valedictorian in Alabama with an ego sufficiently in check that he laughs at how broadcasters have mispronounced his name. He even has a favorite: U-boo-moo-noo.

"They added a whole bunch of O's and U's," Obomanu said.

That makes him the perfect spokesman for the receivers on Seattle's roster, a group as understated as it is underestimated and full of men looking to make a name for themselves.

"We hit stride with the throwing game," coach Pete Carroll said. "I think the guys look really good."

Things are quieter among Seattle's wide receivers these days. T.J. Houshmandzadeh is in Baltimore, and Deion Branch was traded to New England. It was just part of a purge at a position where Seattle used to not only spend millions, but was willing to fork over draft picks for the privilege of cutting the check.

Now, the Seahawks don't have a receiver making more than $1.1 million in base salary this season and with six games left this season it's clear Seattle's collection of wide receivers have been the team's biggest surprise.

"All of them came here for looking for an opportunity, and it's funny how things change," said Kippy Brown, Seattle's wide receivers coach. "To their credit, I think they're just taking advantage of their opportunity."

No one more so than Mike Williams. Out of the league the past two years, he has caught 52 passes this season — 17 in the past two games alone.

But it's not just Williams. He didn't practice Wednesday, held out by a foot strain that knocked him out of last Sunday's game.

Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck said the Seahawks are preparing as if Williams won't be able to play against Kansas City.

That could mean an opportunity for someone else to be featured. It could be rookie Golden Tate, who missed the past three games with a sprained ankle and whose playing time has fluctuated this season because of his route-running.

Or maybe it's Obomanu, who is in his fifth year with the team after being drafted in the seventh round in 2006. He didn't catch a single touchdown in his first four seasons with the Seahawks. He has two in the past three weeks.

Then there's Brandon Stokley, who was signed two weeks after the season began but hasn't so much as practiced in two weeks — yet he caught all six balls thrown to him last weekend in New Orleans.

Seattle spent years making big-budget additions at receiver under former president Tim Ruskell. But now it's a mix of the overlooked and the undervalued who have helped Seattle's offense hum for the first time all season.

Seattle has passed for 746 yards in the past two games, its highest two-week total since 2002. It's an aerial renaissance for Hasselbeck. For Seattle's receivers, this has been nothing short of a revelation.

"They're getting better," Carroll said.

"They're growing with the offense and with the quarterback."

The group isn't as loud as it used to be, not as flashy. It's not just the results that are speaking for themselves, though. Obomanu remains one of the quietest players on the team, but Seattle is hearing from him.

"I've even started talking more in meetings," he said

Ben Obomanu has been called a lot of things in his NFL career. Before last week, starting receiver wasn’t one of them.

Obomanu, pronounced Oh-buh-MAHN-ew, has heard his last name butchered for as long as he has been playing football, but it has never bothered him. Yet as the Seattle Seahawks receiver enjoyed one of his best games as a pro against Arizona last week, the Fox broadcasting crew still couldn’t get his name right.

“They’ve been pronouncing my name incorrectly since I was in peewee football, so I look forward to hearing the different ways that people pronounce it,” Obomanu said.

Apparently getting TV people to read a pronunciation guide is a little bit tougher than impressing a coaching staff, which is what Obomanu has done this year, earning him a start last weekend and another one in New Orleans today.

“He deserves it,” Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said. “He just kind of earned his way. This is the classic opportunity about guys continuing to compete and battle and work at your position and all. He earned it and when he got out there he did really well. So he’ll start this week and we’ll just see how it goes. Everybody was really pumped up for him. He’s a great kid in this program, everybody loves him.”

Obomanu took advantage of his first career start, grabbing four passes for 60 yards and rushing twice for 17 more on end arounds. The yardage total was the second highest of Obomanu’s career, falling 12 yards short of a 2007 game against New Orleans, which also featured his first touchdown. His solid performance last week came on the heels of a game in which he caught a 36-yard touchdown, the lone highlight of an otherwise dismal loss to the New York Giants.

“It felt even better to get the win more than anything else, but to go out and get a chance to start, it gave me a little satisfaction to be able to sit back and say, ‘One of those things on my list of goal I want to accomplish, I got a chance to accomplish one of those,’” he said. “At the same time, it gives me a chance to look forward, to continue to grow on it and build on it this year and in my whole career.”

That Obomanu has a career to even build on was far from a given in recent years. He came to Seattle as a seventh-round pick out of Auburn, and spent the 2006 season on the practice squad. He made the team the following year, and other than that game against the Saints, made his mark mostly on special teams. A broken collar bone ended his 2008 season before it could get off the ground. The past two years, he has spent training camp as a player on the proverbial bubble when cuts came around. This season, as the Seahawks brought in receiver after receiver during the summer, Obomanu hung around and won a job.

Now he’s becoming a major contributor.

“Every training camp, every preseason, for some reason I was always the guy on the bubble,” he said. “No matter how good I did, no matter how many plays I made the day before, the year before, for some reason it always one of those things where, ‘Man, he’s a guy who should get cut,’ or, ‘he’s a guy that’s on the bubble.’ It’s one of those things where it makes it a little bit sweeter.”

And despite having played very little on offense prior to this season, Obomanu actually has experience on his side. What he lacks in game-day playing time he makes up for with five seasons worth of training camp and practice. So while Matt Hasselbeck continues to learn the tendencies of Mike Williams, Deon Butler and Golden Tate, he has a built-in comfort level with Obomanu.

“We ran a play today and we were talking about how he did his motion on the play and I said, ‘Hey, I was thinking maybe you should do it this way,’” Hasselebck said. “And he said, ‘Oh, yeah, yeah, like Darrell used to do it?’ And I was like, ‘Were you here with Darrell Jackson? You’ve been here that long?’”

Hasselbeck, like Obomanu, looks back now at the days of having 19 receivers at training camp and wonders why there was so much question about his spot on the team.

“You know, you forget sometimes just because he’s so steady, he always does things right,” he said. “Just going back from the day that Pete and his staff got here, we’ve talked about so many different guys becoming ‘the guy’ at that wide receiver position. ... So I’m happy that he’s finally getting an opportunity to be ‘that guy.’”

Being that guy still may come with a few comical interpretations of a last name that really isn’t that hard to figure out. Though nothing, not even an ill-prepared Fox broadcast team, will likely top Obomanu’s favorite version of his name, one that goes back to his youth-football days.

“Ooboomoonu,” he said when asked about the worst attempt at pronouncing his name. “I don’t know where all those Os came from.”

If he keeps this up, Obomanu won’t have to hear his name butchered up for much longer.

“To have him show up like that in his first opportunity — you know it’s, ‘Here’s your chance. What are you going to do with it?’ — and he did something,” Carroll said. “So we’ll count on Ben to do that again, and they’ll get to pronounce his name right if he does it a couple more weeks in a row.”

Rotoworld is so full of shit sometimes. such a fantasy football agendaKeiland Williams

Keiland Williams: " Keiland Williams-RB- Redskins Nov. 19 - 2:27 pm et

The Washington Post suggests that Keiland Williams is no lock to be the Redskins' featured tailback in Week 11.
Writes the Post's Rick Maese, 'If (Clinton) Portis handles the bulk of the workload Sunday, Williams could return to his role as the team's third-down back.' We do tentatively expect Williams to handle most of the carries and catches for Washington, but it's another reminder that Mike Shanahan backfields are far from reliable sources of fantasy value. A tough matchup with Tennessee makes the situation that much sketchier.

Clinton Portis will play Sunday against Titans; Ryan Torain out

By Rick Maese

Running back Clinton Portis will return to the backfield for the Redskins Sunday at Tennessee after missing five games because of a groin injury.

Redskins Coach Mike Shanahan said following practice Friday that Portis is healthy enough to play, but running back Ryan Torain will be ruled out for Sunday's game against the Titans.

Portis suffered the groin injury in the Oct. 3 game at Philadelphia. He was able to practice this week, and Shanahan said he looked good enough to play this weekend.

"If we didn't feel good about him, we wouldn't play him," Shanahan said. "He looked like he'd be good to go."

Portis initially was coy about his status, saying, "It's a game-time decision." But he then conceded, "It's exciting to be back. I felt good, so to have this opportunity to be back out there. ... I had an opportunity to go out and test it, and I did."

Portis has 195 yards on 49 carries this season, an average of four yards per carry. He has two rushing touchdowns in four games this year.

Shanahan wouldn't discuss Portis's exact role Sunday against the Titans.

"I'm not going to go into detail about workload we'll give him, but he's going to play in the game," Shanahan said.

Torain started four games in Portis's place and had 391 yards and three touchdowns on 91 carries. He injured his hamstring, though, in the Oct. 31 loss at Detroit. Torain was limited in practice last week, but Shanahan thought he'd be healthy enough to play against the Eagles. Torain tweaked his hamstring in pregame warm-ups and spent the
entire night on the sidelines.

Torain was not able to practice this week and Shanahan said he wasn't certain whether he'd be able to return for the team's Nov. 28 game against Minnesota.

Rookie Keiland Williams started in the backfield last week. If Portis handles the bulk of the workload Sunday, Williams could return to his role as the team's third-down back.

Lions' Kevin Smith will have thumb surgery | freep.com | Detroit Free Press

Lions' Kevin Smith will have thumb surgery | freep.com | Detroit Free Press

Detroit Lions running back Kevin Smith will undergo thumb surgery Thursday and miss Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys.
Smith suffered a thumb injury late in the first half of last Sunday’s loss to the Buffalo Bills. He missed three games earlier this year while recovering from 2009 knee surgery but has served as Jahvid Best’s primary backup since early October.
“Kevin has been extremely tough in his dealing with a lot of different issues and his giving us a spark and things like that,” Lions coach Jim Schwartz said. “But there’s a big difference in dealing with sore knees and ankles and shoulders and hamstrings, all those things that running backs deal with, and dealing with a thumb when you’re talking about ball security and being able to catch the ball and things like that. So he’s very disappointed, but it’s something that needs to be done.”
Schwartz did not put a timetable on Smith’s return but said Aaron Brown likely will be active this week for the first time since he broke a bone in his hand Sept. 26. Maurice Morris and fullback Jerome Felton also will see time as Best backups.
Felton said Smith’s thumb “looked pretty bad” after the Bills game.
“I hurt my thumb in kind of the same type of thing, but my (thumb) was a lot different than his was,” Felton said. “It was just hanging down, it looked like the ligament -- like nothing was holding it.”
Smith has 34 carries for 133 yards this year.

Pierre Garcon

Pierre Garcon: "According to metrics from Football Outsiders, Pierre Garcon is on pace for the least effective season by a Colts receiver since 1999.
Garcon's struggles with drops are no secret, but he's having a miserable season all-around. Garcon's catch percentage has fallen to 47, which is almost unheard of for a Peyton Manning receiver. He's also just 4-of-14 on third downs, with half of those targets coming on passes of just 2-7 yards. One could posit that Garcon is due for a strong finish, but Austin Collie is simply the superior player."

Lee Evans Injury Update: Buffalo Bills Wide Receiver Active | Bleacher Report: "Lee Evans Injury Update: Buffalo Bills Wide Receiver Active

Buffalo Bills wide receiver Lee Evans is active and in the Bills' lineup for their Week 10 meeting with the Detroit Lions. He slides into the number two slot on the Bills' receiver depth chart after fellow receiver Roscoe Parrish was lost for the season during Week 9.

Steve Johnson has been Buffalo's top receiving option, as he and quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick have made a great pairing. Evans is the wily veteran still capable of making a play when necessary, and his injured ankle didn't prevent him from playing in Week 10. Houston at Jacksonville: The Jaguars’ pass rush will be hurting minus DE Aaron Kampman and that should be all Houston QB Matt Schaub needs to have a big day. The Jaguars have allowed 17 TD passes this season and opposing quarterbacks are completing 67 percent of their pass attempts. Schaub will have WR Andre Johnson, but not reliable TE Owen Daniels in the lineup. The Texans have looked awful lately and need this game to get back into playoff consideration. Houston last won here, though, in 2006. Houston has moved Brian Cushing back to his outside linebacker position after the second-year pro struggled inside.

Buccaneer starting FB Earnest Graham (hamstring) is out.

Viking QB Brett Favre (ankle, calf, foot-probable) saw light work again Friday, but is expected to start.

Ex-NFL player gets 30 years in SC sexual assault

The Associated Press

7:13 p.m. Wednesday, November 10, 2010

CHARLESTON, S.C. — Former NFL player David Meggett was sentenced to 30 years in prison Wednesday after his conviction in a South Carolina court on charges of criminal sexual conduct and burglary, authorities said.

Meggett was convicted in a case involving an encounter with a college student at her house in North Charleston in January 2009, according to authorities.

Meggett, who attended high school in North Charleston, was a running back and punt returner in the National Football League between 1989 and 1998. Meggett played six years with the New York Giants, three with the New England Patriots and one with the New York Jets. He had nearly 1,700 yards rushing and just over 3,000 receiving during his career.

Meggett, 42, did not take the stand in his own defense at trial and his lawyer said he will appeal. His conviction and sentencing were reported Wednesday in several South Carolina media outlets.

Beattie Butler of the Charleston County Public Defender's Office argued that Meggett and the woman had consensual sex and later had an argument.

In 1998, Meggett arrested in Toronto, Canada, after authorities said he allegedly assaulted an escort worker after a three-way sexual encounter. A trial on the assault charge ended with a hung jury in April 2000.

Meggett later worked as parks and recreation director in Robersonville, N.C., but resigned four years ago after he was accused of sexually assaulting his former girlfriend.

He was convicted of misdemeanor sexual battery in 2007, receiving received two years probation in the North Carolina case. Authorities said he was allowed to move back to South Carolina to serve his probation.

Keiland Williams

Keiland Williams: "Ryan Torain (hamstring) and Clinton Portis (groin) were both in pads for the Redskins' light practice Monday.
The Skins' plan all along was for Portis to resume practicing in a limited manner this week, though he seems unlikely to be ready for at least another game. Coach Mike Shanahan shed no light on Torain's injury, but it's a good sign that he was able to do anything. The Redskins host Philadelphia in Week 10. If neither can play, Keiland Williams would get the start."

Colts injury hits just keep on coming
2:34 PM, Nov. 04, 2010 Written by Phillip B. Wilson

Those who follow Twitter or our IndyStar online site have probably read this by now, but for the sake of keeping up with blogger nation and anybody else, colleague Mike Chappell had it confirmed today that WLB Clint Session finished Monday night’s game despite dislocating an elbow and fracturing a forearm.

The obvious question is what will the Colts do next? Perhaps rookie Pat Angerer plays the weak side, which puts either Philip Wheeler back in the strong-side job he lost or gives Tyjuan Hagler a chance. Wouldn’t mind seeing Hagler get a shot.

While there’s no questioning Session’s toughness, and I read one tweet that said he finished for his father who suffered a career-ending forearm injury in high school, this is yet another painful setback in the Colts injury department. The bodies keep piling up, unfortunately. As many also know, the speculation is rampant that WR Anthony Gonzalez is going to be out a while, possibly the season, with another knee injury.

We’ve heard nothing from the Colts on any injuries. That includes RB Mike Hart, who appeared to roll his left ankle late in Monday’s game. Hart didn’t practice Wednesday and we haven’t been able to talk to him the last two days. No results given on his MRI. We’re in the dark.

But it seems safe to say, for now, the only guy out of the top three RBs who is ready to go is Donald Brown. He practiced full Wednesday and we anticipate he will again today. Colts coach Jim Caldwell said Brown did well in practice last week and was continuing his progress. The coach suggested Brown’s play count — he was limited Monday — would likely increase this week.

No word from Addai, either. He’s been behind the scenes as well, which is typical for guys who are hurt. The last thing they want to do is talk about it. I understand that.

CB Jerraud Powers says he’s “day-to-day,” the company line, basically. I’m guessing if we don’t see him practice today or Friday, he’s probably out, too.

TE Brody Eldridge has a rib injury of some kind, but he’s what I would say so-so at the moment. If he can practice Friday and come through it OK, he might give it a go at Philadelphia Sunday. But if he’s a DNP today and Friday, as he was Wednesday, then count the rookie out, too.

About the only real encouraging news is WR Austin Collie, who practiced limited Wednesday but Caldwell said he looked good. Collie seems determined to be back out there, bandage and all on that right thumb. Because it sure seems like Gonzo is out of the mix yet again, and the fact the Colts haven’t added another WR to the active roster, the gut feel is Collie will play Sunday. Some might question his effectiveness, but he said he felt good catching balls yesterday and sounded confident he could get the job done.

I don’t expect CB Justin Tryon to be back this week. He hurt his left foot and is wearing a boot. That leaves the Colts thin at CB with Kelvin Hayden, Jacob Lacey, Deshea Townsend and Cornelius Brown (signed before Monday’s game).

Fantasy football 2010 midseason rankings

Rankings:

QB (1 pt 20 yds, 4 pt TD, -2 INT, Lost Fumble)

1. Manning (can get it done with any WR, a lot of those guys are getting healthy again Banged up RB corp)
2. Rivers (Team can't run very effectively. Jackson coming back)
3. Rodgers (Team can't run. Still has decent weapons and adds points on the ground)
4. Brees (Team can't run. Bush should be back week 11)
5. Vick (explosive receiving threats and adds points on the ground)
6. Roethlisberger (plenty of weapons at his disposal, a running game that has to be respected but may limit his potential)
7. Fitzpatrick (Always playing from behind. Good downfield receiving threats)
8. Stafford (If he can stay healthy. Upside beyond this ranking)
9. Ryan
10. Young (Moss, adds points on the ground. Only problem is his history of usually throwing for less than 200 yds in games)
11. Schaub (running game is now the focal point. Schaub isn't performing at last years level)
12. Palmer (has a great receiving core)
13. Orton (he had a nice early season run, but has been trending down)
14. Brady (this is more like the pre-moss offense)
15. E. Manning (upside to jump up to top 8)
16. Flacco
17. Freeman (I think this kid could outperform this ranking. Has been very consistent and adds points on the ground)
18. McNabb
19. J. Kitna (lots of Interceptions, plenty of yards)

RB (non - ppr)

1. C. Johnson (Moss should stretch the field and open up some bigger holes for CJ. We've seen what he can do with that)
2. A. Foster (he is a great fit for the Kubiak system, has a nice durable looking build. Featured heavily)
3. A. Peterson (I'm a little concerned he could drop to between 5 and 10. Moss gone, Harvin hurt, Favre not scaring defenses)
4. D. McFadden (they are feeding him the ball. Explosive potential. Just needs to stay on the field)
5. F. Gore
6. J. Charles (starting to show what he can do, being given more opportunities)
7. R. Mendenhall (concern about reduced carries. not much competition for carries though, and Ben will keep defenses honest)
8. L. McCoy (If Vick can stay on the field it should help open up nice running lanes for McCoy)
9. M. Jones-Drew (he had a rough start, but is starting to stabilize. Nice forward schedule, still featured)
10. M. Turner (only 3 TDs so far this season. Snelling stole a lot of early season points, but Turner is going to notch some TDs)
11. A. Bradshaw (should be nice and consistent. possibility of seeing the endzone a little more going forward)
12. P. Hillis (big bruising backs tend to wear down over the season, has never carried full load all season, if these can be avoided could be better than this ranking)
13. L. Tomlinson (Shonn Green will chip away at Tomlinson's production more as the season progresses)
14. L. Blount (looks like the featured back going forward, and has a favorable schedule)
15. S. Jackson (nothing flashy so far but very consistent, could see a big game or two)
16. T. Jones (Chiefs running game is clicking, he is getting good goal line looks, top 5 potential if Charles gets injured)
17. J. Addai (great chance at top 10 if he can just get back on the field and healthy. underrated goal line back)
18. R. Rice (too many new weapons and Flacco development this year means the Ravens aren't relying on dump offs to Rice)
19. K. Moreno (This is about the worst I see him finishing if he just stays on the field, there is top 10 upside here)
20. M. Forte (2 great games, but a lot of stinkers)
21. BJGE (limited carries, some poor ypc games, one huge game, goal line back)
22. C. Benson (getting a ton of carries like last year, but just not finding the same yardage. TO has taken goal line looks)
23. J. Stewart/D. Williams (if you have both, don't give up on these guys yet. Could take a couple weeks for defenses to soften up and start respecting the pass a little more. Williams is the better long term option)
24. J. Best (has to score again eventually, but the turf toe will not resolve itself this season)
25. B. Jacobs (getting a lot of goal line looks)
26. M. Tolbert (splitting carries, on a prolific offense that should provide ample scoring opps)
27. M. Lynch (hasn't done much with the opportunities, Seattle O is just not very good)
28. B. Jackson (trending up in both carries and production)
29. W. McGahee (The Ravens failed to trade him, so they may as well use him. Generally underrated as a RB)
30. C. Wells (durability is still a huge concern. Lubrication in the knee doesn't sound good, and neither does more swelling)
31. R. Torain (Hamstring injuries tend to linger)
32. D. Woodhead (limited opportunities but a decent spot start)
33. F. Jones (ditto)

The rest qualify as flyers:

C. Ivory (Team had a down game against the Browns, he suffered a mild concussion last week. When Bush gets healthy he could still make some noise as the power running back and possibly see some goal line looks. Pierre isn't really showing good signs of returning and being healthy enough to be productive. Something 'new' was found wrong with his ankle)
R. Bush (should be back week 11)
R. Williams/Ronnie Brown (If both stay healthy then neither is better than a spot start)
S. Greene (I think he'll become more featured later in the season. Huge upside if LT gets injured)
D. Sproles (All the injuries could mean more involvement in the passing game)
M. Reece (Zach Miller injury is creating opportunities for Reece)

Wide Receivers/TE (non - ppr)

1. C. Johnson (he is a beast, and Stafford is healthy)
2. R. White (so consistent, and puts up a couple monsters every year too)
3. D. Jackson (if he can put the severe concussion behind him, he'll flourish with Vick at QB)
4. A. Johnson (looking healthier, but the HAS he has been playing on could minimize potential week in week out.)
5. H. Nicks (good call by Dodds on Nicks this year. He has been unstoppable in the red zone)
6. G. Jennings (no Finley, Grant, Driver means lots of Jennings)
7. B. Lloyd (took me awhile to believe, but we have a legit producer in Lloyd this year)
9. A. Boldin
10. T. Owens (great redzone presence)
11. A. Collie (practiced fully on thursday, has been great when healthy, other receivers also banged up)
12. S. Johnson (Buffalo is going to be passing a lot)
13. M. Austin (will still be a factor with Kitna at QB. Cowboys will have to pass a lot, lack of running game)
14. A. Gates (hard to discount his toughness, but a torn fasciitis could limit him a lot)
15. R. Wayne (injury issues are holding him back, and Collie is back at practice and has emerged this year)
16. R. Moss (maybe limited targets and catches, but should be golden in the play action deep ball passing game)
17. D. Bowe (finally showing something)
18. D. Bryant (has supplanted Williams, getting healthier, utilized on special teams, top 10 upside with Austin as the defenses number 1 priority)
19. B. Marshall (Henne just isn't that good yet. Not many scoring opportunities)
20. M. Wallace (not getting a lot of targets, but should see some big games and long TDs)
21. M. Williams, TB (has been pretty consistently targeted)
22. L. Fitzgerald (the return of Breaston should help open things a little)
23. J. Maclin (Vick looks his way in the redzone)
24. P. Garcon
25. P. Harvin (may miss some time, and Moss is gone. This ranking looks like his upside to me)
26. J. Witten (Kitna will focus on him more than Romo was)
27. S. Breaston (he has been solid when on the field)
28. S. Smith, NYG (I think he'll have a nice second half)
29. S. Smith, CAR (Matt Moore helps, lots of targets moving forward)
30. M. Colston
31. H. Ward (will get more targets than Wallace, but won't do as much with them)
32. M. Williams, SEA (we saw some potential, with two heavily targeted and productive weeks. Then injury against Oak. Big question mark with Whitehurst coming in)
33. S. Moss
34. R. Meachem (Steelers game shows Saints are almost over there hang over, Meachem looks like he is over his toe issues, when Bush comes back it will open things up for everyone, and Meachem has some big 2nd half of the season potential as a result. He has been coming on lately, I see to 20 potential here)
35. M. Crabtree
36. M. Sims-Walker (he'll remain maddeningly inconsistent, but there could be another big game, maybe 2, in there)
37. L. Evans (ditto)
38. C. Ochocinco (he is getting treated as the #1 by defenses. Defenses are dictating TO being the more productive receiver)
39. N. Washington (Moss should open up some intermediate routes for Washington)
40. M. Lewis (having a great season. 3 multiple TD games already. Could finish much higher if this continues)
41. V. Davis
42. L. Moore
43. D. Bess
44. D. Amendola
45. Zach Miller (injured)
