Gerald McCoy, Quincy Black Latest Buccaneers to be Lost to Injuries

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have found pride this season in the "Next Man Up" rallying cry. They have been bitten by injuries and have managed to hang in the playoff race with someone new plugged into a starting role. Somebody will have to step in again as linebacker Quincy Black and defensive tackle Gerald McCoy have been lost for the last three games of the regular season.

The Bucs beat the Redskins, 17-16, on a botched snap of an extra point. That was the good news. Tampa Bay is 8-5 and still in the playoff hunt.

Now, the bad news. McCoy and Black are the fifth and sixth starters the team has lost to injury the last three games. The others were guard Davin Joseph (broken foot) and safety Cody Grimm(broken leg) in the loss at Baltimore and center Jeff Faine (triceps) and cornerback Aqib Talib(torn hip tendon) in the loss to Atlanta.

McCoy told the St. Petersburg Times after the game he will miss the last three games of the regular season with a torn right bicep. McCoy, the third overall pick in the 2010 draft, had just started to find his stride after an uneven start to the season.

"I was reaching out, I came down on a zone block and he turned upfield and I was reaching out for the tackle,'' McCoy told the paper. "My arm just got caught and it tore.

"You can't get down on yourself, you've just got to see what happens. Keep fighting. I'm not a quitter. I don't really let anything slow me down. I keep on pushing. Somebody goes down, somebody has to step up.''

McCoy, who had been shut out of sacks the first nine games of the season, had three sacks in his last three games.

Black broke his arm and will also miss the rest of the season.
