Marshall Q&A: Feeling better,
9:19 a.m. EST, December 3, 2010 A team-released transcript of Brandon Marshall's press conference on Thursday:
On how frustrating was it to go 13 days without being able to get out there to practice with guys: “It’s frustrating but at the same time it’s a part of the game and we got to do what’s best for the team.”
On how he felt out there yesterday, today, and for Sunday: “Excited, to get another opportunity to play ball and get better every day.”
On watching the Dolphins play like they did last Sunday and how excited was he to see them play that well: “Oh enjoyed it. I didn’t enjoy not playing but (you know) I was laying on the table getting some treatment and being a fan. Of course the game had its highs and also had some lows, but…and I was all emotionally wrapped up into it.”
On Marlon Moore saying that he was like a mentor to him and him being excited to see him make that play: “Well basically I’ve said all year to numerous guys in the locker room who’s put in a situation where they had to step up—and when I went down I told the guys in our room that (you know) personally my situation, similar to what just happened to me (you know) Javon Walker went down in my second year and I was the number two and they started putting more plays in for me and was the one…and when he came back Coach Shanahan and the guys decided to keep me as the number one and I didn’t look back. So I told them the same thing. (You know) it’s an opportunity for them to build their foundation and take advantage of this opportunity.”
On if his hamstring well enough to go on Sunday: “Yes I’m feeling good. Getting better every day, and of course with injuries and those decisions are left up to Coach Sparano.”

On whether his hamstring problems are chronic: “Actually, actually I haven’t. I had a quad a couple years ago that kept me out of a couple OTA’s and last year I had a, a little nothing even close to this but it kept me out of some practices and of course coach made the decision to deactivate me in the middle of the week. This is something that’s new to me and bouncing back fairly quick.”
On what he saw in the offense on Sunday while watching from afar: “You know what the O-Line played very, very good protecting Chad (Henne) and giving him time to make the plays that he made and he was able to show what he’s capable of doing and the receivers of course played at a high level and the offense was, was awesome. Coach (Dan) Henning called a great game. It showed why he’s been in the league so long.”
On whether he has more urgency to produce as the season gets shorter: “That happens from day one. That happens in practice when you guys saw me throwing the football or kicking the football (laughing). I want to compete and play at a high level in OTA’s. That’s just the type of guys we are in this locker room and the character that we have.”
On whether he senses a sense of urgency with the team: “Well I mean of course. We’re no dummies and the position that we’re in now, we put ourselves here and it’s going to take a lot for us to achieve our goals but you know it’s possible. We have the guys in the locker room and the coaches to do it.”
On whether he looks at the scores of other games during his game: “A little bit; I try to stay focused but like I said I’m a football fan. I’m not just looking at the guys in our division but I’m looking at what’s going on around the football league.”
On what is wrong with the Miami Heat: “Well shoot we’re trying to get on track ourselves. I think they’ll be fine and I think this is a good opportunity for all the haters and bandwagon fans and commentators to take advantages of doubting them now because in a few weeks or so they’ll put it together and be dominant.”
On whether he’s noticed anything different in Chad Henne’s approach or preparation in the last couple weeks: “You know what, he made some throws on Sunday that was awesome and amazing but this is the Chad Henne that you guys seen for last year and seen at the beginning of this year. We just hit a, a low point in the season where as a group we weren’t getting it done and needed a little spark and coach went in a different direction, but Chad like I said when he got demoted is more than capable of being an All-Pro in this league and I think he’s shown that on Sunday.”
On his emotion on the field: “Well you know I got to think before I do things like that; perception unfortunately is reality, but of course I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for Jay Cutler and before the game we probably talked for 30, 45, well 30 minutes. We’re, we’re good friends and I was just messing with him. I was in my own little world and it actually hurt our offense that drive and that wasn’t smart. I’m a push the envelope a little bit but that’s just bad when you get a penalty and you stall drives, but I’ve been thinking of other ways I can push the envelope without getting fined or getting some penalties thrown, flags thrown.”
On examples of what ways to push the envelope: “I don’t know; I got to get creative man. I’ve been too boring this year (laughing). I mean I got to, of course I only got one touchdown but if I get in the end zone I need to do some celebrations and some dances or something, you know do something. If ya’ll have any ideas let me know (laughing). Just give me something, something I don’t know, say something, spark some controversy (laughing). It’s been too calm; I don’t know.”
